MOVE OVER NY, NUTTER GIVES PHILLY A FASHION INCUBATOR!

What is a fashion incubator? Good question. On Tuesday December 13th, 2011 Mayor Nutter announced the birth of the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator at Macy's in Center City. An effort on both the city, and department stores account, the idea is meant to inspire and nuture young designers. These amateur designers will have 600 square feet of studio space in which to work, as well as participating in workshops and seminars to learn business skills as well as tricks of their trade.

"In addition to fostering Philadelphia's creative class, we believe the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator will promote Center City's economic development, in particular through expansion of Chestnut Street East," Nutter said Tuesday afternoon at Macy's to about 75 Philadelphia fashion professors and people in the industry.

Nutter hopes that this new system will help put Philadelphia on the style spectrum and hopefully draw in high end designers such as Gucci or Prada.

...Who knew Nutter was such a Fashion Nut?!

Shocking new Style ALERT

We're so digging the new vibe of H&M's collection inspired by the renouned novel "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," but what has so many spectators of the collection up in arms? Perhaps its the concept surrounding the collection; one of rape and repressed emotions. This shocking new take on fashion has many questioning whether this is morally correct, to make something so terrible into mainstream fashion. What do you think of the new look? Like, love, or despise it? Tell us your opinion of this dark twisted chic collection.

Story update:
Jennifer Ward, an H&M Spokesperson, issued the following statement in response:
We have read the open letter by Natalie Karnefwe apologize if she or anyone has been offended by the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo collection by Trish Summerville – this has not in any way been our intent. The collection is based on and inspired by the film and character Lisbeth Salander and though we think Lisbeth is a strong woman who stands up for her ideal, we are not trying to represent her specifically. Our goal is to rather offer a collection that we see in today’s trend picture that will appeal to many customers. We do not view this collection as provocative-it contains pieces that are staples in many people’s wardrobes: jeans, biker jackets and t-shirts. It’s all about how you wear them. We encourage our customers to find their own personal way to wear our products.

CLOTHES AND SHOES AND COUTURE, OH MY!

Last But DEFINITELY Not Least...

PHYLLIS! Also a sales associate and fashionista, here is what Phyllis had to say about her style:

"My favorite Fall styles this year are the poncho's and skinny jeans with a riding boot! My personal style will always be skinny jeans and a faux fur vest! What I like about Gina's Closet is the latest styles that we see in the mall stores, but for a fraction of the price. The bags & shoes are great too, and so are the sweater dresses! I am a VERY trendy dresser." -Phyllis

MEET DAWN!

Owner of Gina's Closet, Dawn Kane shares her personal style:

"I like to think of my personal style as stylish and chic. At 42, I pride myself in not only wearing trendy. Whether it’s high-end or low-end, I enjoy mixing it up with even combinations of both classic and trendy pieces to look natural yet stylish. Although I ‘d love to wear killer heels or high, open-toed pumps, my lifestyle simply doesn’t allow it, so practicality usually wins out for me. My favorite fall styles are skinny jeans with long, flowing tunic-style sweaters, lots of layers with a great pair of boots and a small clutch. For a night out, it’s usually a pencil skirt with a silky blouse or a little black dress with a stylish sweater or cape. What I like most about our store is that there is something for women of all ages. Whether young or old, rich or poor there is always a great find for EVERY woman at Gina’s Closet! " -Dawn

VERONICA!

Meet Veronica! Manager at Gina's Closet and stylist on her own terms:

"I would describe my style as a little mix of everything from classic to contemporary. I love mixing rare pieces with designer accents. My favorite thing about Gina's Closet is it's selection! We have great buyers that find wearable, one of a kind pieces in trendy styles. My favorite thing for Fall 2011 is fur jackets (fake of course) and wide legged pants, making this a blast from the past- sophisticated 70's Fall." -Veronica.

First, meet Alyssa!
Sales associate, Event coordinator

"My favorite style is anything trendy but neutral. I thrive off of neutral clothes because they are always going to be in style, and there are so many accents you can pair with a great black sweater to make it a show stopper! Gina's Closet to me is a collection of all styles, young to old, and everything in between. I think we have an acceptional selection, and you can never find two of the same item! Personally, this is the only place I shop! I love the atmosphere and the people and OF COURSE the clothes! Some of my favorite brands and designers are Urban Outfitters, H&M, Forever 21, All Saints, Charlotte Ronson, Michael Kors, and the new Kardashian Kollection is looking very appealing! HAHA" -Alyssa
